As the princes officially split, there are now fears that their once-close relationship is irreparable…
The idea of Prince William and Prince Harry falling out would surely be one of their mother, Princess Dianas, biggest fears.
But, with the late princess 58th birthday fast approaching, it seems thats exactly whats happened, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have split from the Royal Foundation, the charity they once shared with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Royal expert Emily Andrews has claimed that Harry and Williams relationship has become so fraught, they didnt see each other in private for six months after Harry and Meghans wedding.
Now the inner royal circle are fearing the worst – that the spat could lead to a permanent divide, even damaging the future of the monarchy.
A source revealed, “There is a very real fear that if the princes do not repair their relationship, it may reach a point where it is too late… It is the last thing their mother would have wanted.”
So where did it all go wrong for the brothers?
Speculation over Harry and Williams rift reached new heights in March when the Queen granted permission for them to split their royal households permanently.
This meant the Sussexes moved out of Kensington Palace and into Windsor Castle, based their official household office at Buckingham Palace and introduced separate communications teams.
The next month saw the couple launch their own Instagram account with the handle Sussex Royal, having previously shared the Kensington Palace one with Kate and William.
And now Harry and Meghan are splitting from the Royal Foundation charity, which Harry set up with William in 2009, and Meghan officially joined after her and Harrys wedding in May 2018.
A source said, “Certainly the animosity over status, money and Meghan meant that the split in their joint households had to be brought forward more quickly than anticipated. Meghan and Harry want to do things differently to William and Kate.”
Harry and Meghans relationship moved quickly, marrying less than two years after they first met in July 2016.
William – who waited nine years to marry Kate – was wary of the whirlwind relationship, and royal biographer Katie Nicholl has claimed this is where the brothers feud started.
She says, “William voiced concerns that things were moving too quickly. I was told when Harry first brought Meghan back to the palace, he was desperate for Kates approval… I dont think it ever crossed his mind that he wouldnt get it unconditionally from his brother. I think Harry felt that he didnt have the backing from the one person he really wanted it from.”
