A mother from Tulsa, Okla., has been accused of stabbing her 11-year-old daughter and then setting her house on fire. She then fled the scene with her other daughter who is 7 years old.
Oklahoma police arrested 39-year-old Taheera Ahmad in downtown Tulsa after an amber alert was issued for the 7-year-old girl. A witness reported a car matching the description given by authorities and the girl was brought in by police, according to ABC News. (RELATED: Woman Sets Ex-Boyfriend On Fire)
Ahmad stabbed her oldest daughter multiple times, before getting into her black Lexus SUV and making her escape, ABC News reported. Ahmad told police she became enraged after seeing two of her children reading a book.
She was charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, child abuse and first degree arson.
According to police, they found the kitchen on fire when they arrived and discovered the 11-year-old child in critical condition.
Ahmads 9-year-old child managed to escape and told a relative that her mother had bound the childrens hands with duct tape and forced socks into their mouths, while she stabbed their older sister, ABC News reported.
“The story that we received was that the 7-year-old helped the 9-year-old escape the residence,” a police spokesperson told reporters Monday. “This is very fluid. Its moving very fast and we have a traumatized witness who has given us information.”
The 11-year-old child remains in “very severe” condition, according a spokesperson.
